About Us
LORETO CONVENT SCHOOL is situated in the leafy environs of the RCF Township, Chembur. It began at RCF Township in Type IV, Building No. 25, when on 16th June 1968, the Loreto Sisters took over the School from the Good Shepherd Nuns. Mother Patricia Hickey was instrumental in encouraging this takeover. It was Sr. Ursula and Sr. Victorine who were the first Loreto Nuns who took over. When Sr. Victorine left Chembur, Sr. Francis Michael came to help Sr. Ursula. The school was then shifted to its present location in the year 1969.
The school grew in size and popularity, under the able guidance of not only its pioneer sisters but also under Sr. Carmella, Sr. Elizabeth, Sr. Evelyn, Sr. Irene, Sr. Bridget etc., until the year 2000—when the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Apparition took over. The school primarily caters to the children of RCF employees, the local Catholic Community, and to extent possible, members of all other Communities. It is a co-ed school up to class IV, after which it is purely meant for girls and prepares them for the S.S.C exam. The first batch of girls passed the SSC exam in the year 1975. It was a unique batch in the sense, that it was the last batch of students that appeared as the 11th std for the old SSC course. The first batch of the 1oth Std, new course, appeared simultaneously and passed with flying colours!!
The motto of the erstwhile Loreto Order, “Serve in Joy” would earnestly be followed in its curricular and co-curricular activities where reaching out to “have-nots” was a way of life. Visits to orphanages and the remand home in the vicinity would be encouraged and the staff supported these ventures. It can truly be said, that once a child entered the portals of Loreto Convent Chembur, she would emerge a self-confident, highly motivated, spiritual individual, ready to work for her home and the country.
Kindergarten (St. Joseph of the Apparition)
The Pre-Primary section is the first step towards knowledge and education. The Junior and Senior KG teachers take utmost care and considerable effort using their best educational skills. Innovative methods are utilized by our experienced teachers to mould the students to grow better, not only in language and mathematics but also in general knowledge and creativity. Various competitions are conducted for the students to learn and enjoy while building up confidence and healthy competitive spirit in them. We believe in imparting education and knowledge without depriving the students of their childhood.
SJA Nursey
This year we have also started Nursery that provides early childhood education to prepare children before they join a compulsory primary school. We at SJA- Nursery focus on creating a ‘safe space’ (physically and emotionally) for our youngest learners to spark their natural curiosity, nurture confidence, and develop positive attitudes toward school. We help your child to experience the joys of childhood through purposeful play and to develop foundational knowledge, creative and critical thinking skills, and the essential habits that support lifelong learning.
Primary Section
The Loreto Convent School Primary section caters to the educational needs of about 600 students with a student teacher ratio of a bout 1:45, the dedicated staff of the school are able to impart education aimed at the all round personality development of the individual child. Stress is not as much on academic excellence as on discipline and good value systems, which we believe, will not only groom a child to become a good social being but also enable him/ her to realise his/ her potential - be it in academics, fine arts or sports.
Care is taken to ensure a healthy team spirit among the students through the various extra-curricular activities undertaken during the academic year. Each and every child gets to participate in the annual parents’ day event. Respect for one-another and co-operation in actively promoted and encouraged. Each child is made to feel special and knows that he\she matters to teacher. Even children with special needs feel assured of teacher’s affection and support.
Secondary Section
Loreto Convent Secondary section is recognized and aided by the Maharashtra State Board of Education. About 650 girls are taking education under the Loreto banner in Chembur-RCF Township which provides safe and secured environment to them. As per the motto of the school “Onward With Honour” teachers take care to impart education to groom the girls for taking responsibility in the future life. The school provides ample opportunities and exposure for the intellectual, physical, psychological and moral development of their pupils. Besides the academics the girls are encouraged to participate in sports, cultural activities, debates, elocution competitions, essay competitions, Art & craft competitions etc. The school has won many awards at the inter-school level and ward level. Our school has secured 100% results at SSC level for past 30 years.
